Replacing Yourself

You can’t get promoted if you can’t be replaced. This is a significant challenge today, as many organizations have downsized to the point where employees are working to full capacity, with little time left for their own development. So the pool of potential replacements is shallow indeed, requiring that we promote people because of their potential rather than their abilities. Here are some ideas to ensure that you are ready to move up the ladder when the call comes.

? See yourself as a coach. Make it your business to identify one or two key people for development and create a plan to enable them to step into your shoes at any time.

? Review the skills that made you successful—organizational, technical, and ‘‘soft’’ skills. Evaluate potential replacements and identify gaps in their knowledge. Let them know about your intention to develop them as your backup—it will be highly motivating for them.

? Identify your replacement’s learning style. Some people are more self directed while others prefer more structure, help, and guidance as they
learn. Those that are more self-directed are able to take responsibility for their careers and learning and are probably going to be better replacements. Prioritize topics with the prote´ge´ and develop a list of learning opportunities (conferences, workshops, reading, and assignments, to name a few) that will be implemented over a reasonable period of time.

? Encourage retention of new skills by setting goals before each learning opportunity. Equally important, follow up to find out how effective the
training was, what was learned, and what new skills or behavior you are likely to notice. Reinforce the learning as often as you can; for learning to be internalized, it probably needs to be reinforced five to six times.

? Challenge your prote´ge´ with work assignments. On-the-job learning can be powerful. Ensure that each assignment has four phases:

Planning. Identify the goals of the assignment. Next specify what
steps (actions) are expected and what the final outcome will be
(deliverables). Involve the prote´ge´ in the plan to ensure that she
buys into the goals you are setting.

Action. Allow the prote´ge´ to carry out the project. Monitor her progress,
offering encouragement along the way. Note how she deals with
adversity. Does she look to you for help when she encounters a
roadblock or does she find a way to overcome the obstacle? Identify
key points along the way to evaluate progress so that she can get
feedback.

Evaluation. Make notes on your observations so that you can be
specific in your feedback. Also, if possible, measure progress so that
your feedback will be accurate rather than general. Having pointed
out any shortcomings that you might have observed, get your prote´-
ge´’s agreement to the facts presented. Then ask her to suggest new
strategies to deal with the situation. You should suggest solutions
only if she has no idea how to deal with the situation in the future
(which is highly unlikely).

Revision. Create a new plan for learning something new or set up
a similar project to perfect your prote´ge´’s learning.

Getting secured.

It is very important that we have some security on most of our properties and even on our future life. So we have to acquire some insurance like, car insurance, home insurance, life insurance, etc. It doesn’t matter if you acquired an expensive or cheap insurance plan, what is important is you are secured. There are lot of companies offering different kind of insurance, it only depends on you. It is very nice to imagine that you have just little things to worry about your future.

A road trip.

My friend called me over the phone last night, he is inviting me to join him on a road trip for two days. He wants to have fishing with our other friends on a river on the other side of the town. The problem is, his rv’s toilet won’t work well so as spreading its smell around the rv. I told him to take that on the rv repair shop, I think it will only a couple of hours to fix that.

Living Each Moment to the Fullest – how?

Our lives are not a dress rehearsal for something else. This is the real thing, the only chance we get to make the most of our lives. We can never know when the final moment of our lives may occur. So, we need to take every opportunity to make each day count as if it were our last.

  1. Ignore the numbers that never help you or cause you stress. These include age, height, or earnings.
  2. Surround yourself with people who are happy, smile often, and always see the glass as half full. Let go of the complainers.
  3. Keep learning. Learn in formal situations and learn from your mistakes. Seek out people who have complementary skills and ideas. Learn
from them. Learn more about computers, crafts, gardening, whatever may interest you. Never let the brain idle.
  4. Enjoy the simple things. Learn to smell the roses.
  5. Laugh often, and with gusto. Never feel embarrassed to laugh out loud—it’s often infectious. Laugh until you feel as if your body’s going to explode. It won’t.
  6. Deal with grief as a necessary but passing phase that cannot be avoided. But don’t get stuck in it. Life is too short. Honor those who have passed and care for those who are unwell. But move on—don’t get stuck with things you have no control over. Treat your tears as a way to help you wash the sadness away. Enjoy the sense of relief and move on.
  7. Fill your life with love. Surround yourself with people you love and who love you in return. Listen to music that you love, over and over, till it stops giving you enjoyment. Keep near you pictures of the people and things that you love so that you can see them often.
  8. Cherish your health. If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond anything you can do to improve, get help.
  9. Avoid feeling guilty. Treat yourself to things that give you pleasure. Have the occasional piece of chocolate or your favorite full-fat ice
cream. And (within reason) buy that luxury item you’ve always wanted. Savor these times of indulgence, but don’t rely on them too often to make you happy.
  10. Tell the people you love that you love them—often.

Are you looking for a job?

Looking for a job is a very hard task, I myself find it so difficult on finding one. It is not just you got hired and you are done, even you don’t like what you are about to do with the job. What we call a good job is when you do like the job, and how we are supposed find the right thing. It is very important that get a smooth start, well everything must be on that way. So we start by creating good and truthful resumes, which we give to the company of your choice. This is very crucial, because no company will hire you if you don’t have a good resume. The only reference that this company holding from you is your resume, and that will make you hired. So focus on making one, trust me, it will help a lot.

Beauty from simple things.

Sometimes we don’t expect that very simple things can add beauty to our house, also to some parts of the hotels and can even bring lives to the top.

We are used to know that expensive things are always more beautiful than those cheaper things. I am talking about these Cheap Rugs. As I have observed that these rugs can be seen in most parts of the houses and even hotels especially those parts with doors. Area rugs can be seen when we step into the door: going to the sala, in the bedroom, in the comfort room, guest room, study area and other rooms of any big houses and prestigious hotels. Aside from door mat, place mat, vase mat, others use also some rugs for decorations. Imagine these very ordinary things by adding some arts and design can turn into more impressive things.

Rugs are usually ordinary things, but through the hard works of others, these ordinary things can even bring their lives to the top. Just like one of our family friends their business is making impressive rugs. Before, they are selling those ordinary rugs. Starting from those ordinary rugs, they brought some improvements. They add some designs, nice colors, put some arts on these rugs. Starting from home business, now they have more other branches in different cities. Their family starts from one of the poorest. Guess what? Now, they are one of the richest. What a wonderful experience for them, right? I really admire their hard work, the determination, and the power of the fighting spirit. I have known also that each of the members of this family really contributed their part to the success of their business.

How I wish that I am one of this family. I was so amazed of their story, that’s why I admired them so much. Actually, for me, they are the perfect example for the sayings – from ‘rugs to riches’.

My Grandmother is doing them easy.

I visit my grandmother yesterday, I haven’t seen her for quite a while so I paid her a visit. I caught her cleaning her house with this Ladybug cleaner, I told her that she won’t have to do that. She then told me that cleaning is very easy with that cleaner. You don’t even have to do some hard effort just to clean, because it uses steam. And she also told me that her maid is out for a vacation, so she have to do all the chores. It is so amazing because not only she cleaned the whole house, she also manages to cook for me.

It is free, it is powerful.

Internet is a very powerful tool to promote anything, but getting on the top of the line is quite hard actually. There are lots of optimization stuffs that have to be done and I am not too professional to do all that. Anyway, what I am doing is look for those free ones like free directory submissions, a very useful system and yet free. These are good, because you won’t spend a single penny by doing so. All you have to do is to create lots of good contents for your viewers to keep coming back.

Very useful gifts.

I’ve looking to the Internet for some gifts that I can give to my relatives. I mean anything, but it should be beautiful and very useful. There are lots of stuffs out there, but I am a little bit choosy actually. I remember one time last year, our boss gave us those promotional tote bags. They look so great with the company logo on it. Now, I am even wondering of giving those bags for gifts with my own signature on it.

An act of change.

It is very hard for me to take a regular exercise, but I need that badly. Last night, I made a daily routine schedule and this I must follow. Every morning I should run at least one kilometer and during week ends at least two kilometers. The reason that I wish to do this is because lately I found out that I am getting fatter. Well, not good actually. I am an office man with a busy schedule and always sitting. Getting an exercise will do, I think, and a little bit of diet. So now I’m also looking for the best diet supplements to loose weight even more faster. I hope after two months I will loose fats.
